Teaching experience

Ron has worked as a peripatetic teacher since 1969 at schools in Staffordhire, Birmingham, South West London and Surrey.

Biography

ron_photoRon has been a freelance violinist for forty years and has played with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Guildford Philharmonic amongst many others. He has extensive knowledge of the standard orchestral repertoire, in addition to having participated in many operatic performances.
Ron has given solo recitals in Guildford and Tunbridge Wells, playing Mozart, Beethoven, Elgar Sonatas and various Kreisler pieces. Ron was leader of a quartet who played regularly for weddings, baptisms and other social functions. He has also composed many pieces for the quartet to perform, in order to raise musical awareness in schools throughout Staffordshire, Birmingham, South West London and Surrey. Ron was a representative on Sir Simon Rattle’s Music Education Committee with the NACCCE and has contributed several articles to various publications on music education including the journal of the Music Education Council and in the Musician.
As a composer, Ron studied under Alan Bush and Aubrey Bowman.

Ron’s orchestral work also includes City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Guildford Philharmonic, Thames Philharmonia, Surrey Mahler Orchestra, Surrey Mozart Players Surrey ProMusica, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Youth Orchestra and the Merriman Orchestra. Ron has also played with Ian Ray at Colchester.
Orchestral training: European Youth Orchestra and Middlesex Schools Symphony Orchestra.

Education

Ron’s graduate studies took place at the Royal Academy of Music.

Prizes and Awards

Throughout his studies, Ron was supported by the Ralph Vaughan Williams Trust and the Leche Trust.
Teachers: David Martin, James Davies, Ernest Element, John Bradbury, John Ludlow.

Research

Ron has become a friend of Woking Palace and is looking into the history of the Tudors with a view to understanding the music of this period and what may have been used at such a venue when in use.
